How to Clear Cache on iPhone
Clear the Safari cache, free space from individual apps, and remove cached data on iPhone without deleting your photos or messages.
iPhone has no single "clear cache" button. Cache lives in three places: Safari, individual apps, and system storage. Here is how to clear each.
Clear Safari's cache and history
Open Settings, then Safari (on iOS 18 and later it is under Settings, Apps, Safari). Tap Clear History and Website Data, choose a time range, and confirm.
This removes cached pages, cookies, and history. You will be signed out of websites. Bookmarks and saved passwords are not affected.
Clear the cache for a specific app
Open Settings, General, iPhone Storage. Wait for the list to load, then tap the app. You have two options:
- Offload App removes the app but keeps its documents and data. Reinstall it from the same screen and everything comes back, minus the cache.
- Delete App removes everything. Only do this for apps that sync from a server, like streaming or social apps.
Some apps, like Chrome and Spotify, also have their own clear-cache setting inside the app.
Clear the system cache with a restart
iOS clears temporary system files when it restarts. Hold the side button and either volume button until the slider appears, slide to power off, wait ten seconds, then hold the side button to turn it back on.
What you do not need. Cleaner apps from the App Store cannot access other apps' caches. iOS does not allow it. The three steps above are everything a cleaner app could legitimately do.
