How to Clear App Cache on Android

An app is misbehaving, loading stale content, or eating more storage than it should. Clearing its cache removes the temporary files it has built up and forces it to fetch fresh copies. Your account and settings stay in place.

Open the app list in Settings

Open Settings, tap Apps, then tap See all apps. On Samsung One UI, Settings, Apps opens the full list directly.

Tap the app

Scroll to the app you want, or use the search icon at the top, and tap its name to open its App info screen.

Tap Storage & cache

Tap Storage & cache. On Samsung the item is labeled Storage. The screen shows how much space the app is using, split into app size, user data, and cache.

Tap Clear cache

Tap Clear cache. The cache figure drops to zero and the button greys out. Nothing else changes: you stay signed in, and your data in the app is untouched. Open the app again and it rebuilds the cache as needed. If the app was slow or showing old content, the cache clear is usually enough.

Clear cache versus Clear storage. The button next to Clear cache is Clear storage (Samsung: Clear data). That one wipes everything the app has saved on the phone: logins, preferences, offline files, and any game progress that is not synced to an account. Only use it when an app is broken beyond what a cache clear fixes, and expect to sign in again afterward.

There is no clear-all switch. Modern Android has no single button that empties every app's cache at once; you go app by app, starting with the largest ones under Settings, Storage, Apps. Chrome keeps its own cache separately: open Chrome, tap the three-dot menu, then Settings, Privacy and security, Delete browsing data, and check Cached images and files before tapping Delete data.
