How to Delete All Emails from One Sender in Gmail

One sender has filled your inbox with hundreds of messages you will never read. Instead of deleting them one at a time, search for the address, select everything the search finds, and delete it in one action.

Search for the sender

In the search bar at the top of Gmail on the web, type from:name@example.com with the sender's actual address and press Enter. A shortcut: right-click one of their messages in the inbox list and choose Find emails from followed by their name, which runs the same search.

Check the results

Scan the list to confirm it contains only what you expect. Messages from that address already in Spam or Trash are not included unless you add in:anywhere to the search. If the sender uses several addresses at one company, search the domain instead, such as from:example.com.

Select all messages on the page

Click the checkbox at the top-left of the message list, above the first result. Every conversation on the current page is selected.

Select every matching conversation

If the search returned more than one page, a line appears above the list saying all conversations on this page are selected, with a link reading Select all conversations that match this search. Click it. The count updates to the full total.

Click Delete

Click the Delete icon (trash can) in the toolbar above the list. Gmail asks you to confirm the bulk action. Click OK. The messages move to Trash, where they stay for 30 days before being removed permanently. To reclaim storage sooner, open Trash and click Empty Trash now.

To stop future mail from this sender. Create a filter with the same from: criteria and tick Delete it, and new messages will go straight to Trash without touching the inbox.

To keep the mail but clear the inbox. Click Archive (the box with a down arrow) instead of Delete at the last step. Archived mail leaves the inbox but stays searchable under All Mail.
