You deleted a file from the OneDrive folder on the office PC, and now it is gone from the laptop at home too. It did not go to the office computer's Recycle Bin alone. A delete inside a synced folder is a delete in the cloud, and OneDrive pushes that delete to every signed-in device. The copy you want is in the online Recycle bin.
Open the Recycle bin at onedrive.com
Sign in at onedrive.com with the same account. In the left pane, click Recycle bin. Personal accounts keep deleted files for 30 days; work or school accounts keep them for 93 days.
Select the file and click Restore
Tick the file, or use the search box to find it, then click Restore at the top. It goes back to its original folder and syncs down to every computer within a few minutes. Do not click Empty recycle bin while you are there.
Check the local Recycle Bin on the computer that deleted it
On the PC where the delete happened, the file usually also sits in that machine's Recycle Bin. Right-click it there and choose Restore. Either route works; the file syncs back to the cloud again.
Check the Second-stage recycle bin for a work or school account
If a work or school Recycle bin is empty, scroll to the bottom and click Second-stage recycle bin. Files removed from the first bin land there until the 93 days run out. Personal accounts have no second stage.
Use Version history if the file was changed, not deleted
If the file is still there but overwritten, right-click it at onedrive.com and choose Version history, then restore an earlier version. Version history does not bring back deleted files; the Recycle bin does.
Roll back the whole account if a lot was deleted
Microsoft 365 subscribers can undo a mass delete. At onedrive.com click Settings (gear), Options, Restore your OneDrive, pick a date or a point on the activity chart, and confirm. This rewinds the entire OneDrive up to 30 days, including changes you may want to keep, so restore individual files first when the loss is small.
If you deleted a Files On-Demand placeholder. A cloud-only file with the cloud icon still deletes in the cloud when you delete it on the PC. To drop the local copy while keeping the cloud one, right-click the file and choose Free up space instead.
