How to Add Another Account to Gmail

Add a second Google account to switch between in Gmail, or pull mail from another address into your current inbox and send from it, on the web and in the app.

Adding an account to Gmail can mean two things: signing in to a second Google account and switching between them, or reading another address inside the inbox you already use. Both are covered below.

Add a second Google account

Click your profile picture at the top right, then Add another account. Sign in with the other address and password. Gmail opens that account in a new tab, and both stay signed in.

Switch between accounts

Click the profile picture again and pick the account you want. Each account keeps its own inbox and settings. The address bar changes to mail.google.com/mail/u/1/ for the second account, u/2/ for the third, and so on, so you can bookmark each one and open it directly.

Pull another address into this inbox

To read mail from a different address without switching, click Settings (gear icon), See all settings, Accounts and Import. Next to Check mail from other accounts, click Add a mail account, enter the address, and click Next.

Choose how the mail is fetched

For some providers, such as Yahoo and Outlook.com, Gmail offers Link accounts with Gmailify, which syncs both ways and keeps Gmail's spam filtering. Otherwise choose Import emails from my other account (POP3), enter the password and server details, and pick whether to leave a copy on the server and which label to apply to fetched mail. Click Add Account.

Send from that address too

Still under Accounts and Import, next to Send mail as, click Add another email address. Enter the name and address, click Next Step, and follow the verification prompts. Once verified, the address appears in the From dropdown at the top of the compose window.

In the Gmail app. Tap your profile picture, then Add another account. The app accepts Google accounts as well as Outlook, Yahoo, and other IMAP addresses, each shown as a separate inbox you switch to from the profile picture.

POP is one way. Mail fetched over POP is checked on a schedule and copied into Gmail. Reading, labeling, or deleting it in Gmail does not change anything in the original mailbox.
