How to Print from an iPhone

An iPhone prints to any AirPrint printer on the same Wi-Fi network with nothing to install. Nearly every Wi-Fi printer sold in recent years supports AirPrint.

Check the printer and the network

Turn the printer on and confirm it is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the iPhone, not a guest network or a cellular hotspot. Open Settings, Wi-Fi on the iPhone to see which network it is using.

Open the item and tap Share

Open the page, photo, email, note, or document you want to print. Tap the Share button (the square with an arrow pointing up). In apps that use a three-dot menu instead, such as Notes or Mail's message view, tap the menu and look for Print there.

Tap Print

Scroll down the Share sheet and tap Print. The print options screen opens with a preview of the pages.

Select the printer

Tap Printer (it reads Select Printer the first time), then tap your printer in the list. The iPhone remembers it for next time. If no printers are listed, wait a few seconds for the search to finish and check the Wi-Fi network again.

Set the options and print

Choose the number of Copies, tap Range to print only certain pages, and turn on Double-sided if the printer supports it. Some printers also offer black and white or paper size choices. Tap Print in the top right corner. The pages come out within a few seconds.

If you want to check or cancel a job. While something is printing, open the app switcher (swipe up from the bottom and pause, or double-click the Home button). Print Center appears there. Tap it to see the job and cancel it if needed. It disappears once printing finishes.

If the printer does not support AirPrint. Install the maker's app (HP Smart, Canon PRINT, Epson Smart Panel, or Brother Mobile Connect). These apps print photos and documents directly and can also appear in the Share sheet as their own option.
