How to Share a Wi-Fi Password from Android

Android can show a QR code for the network you are connected to, with the password printed in plain text beneath it. Another phone scans the code and joins without you reading the password out.

Open Internet settings

Open Settings, tap Network & internet, then tap Internet.

Tap the connected network

Tap the name of the network you are connected to, or tap the gear icon to the right of it. The network details screen opens.

Tap Share

Tap Share. Confirm with your fingerprint, face, PIN, or pattern. Android asks for this every time because the password is about to be shown.

Show the QR code to the other phone

A QR code appears with the network name and password printed under it. Hold the screen steady and reasonably bright while the other person scans it.

Scan it from the other phone

On the other Android phone, open the camera app and point it at the code; a prompt to join the network appears. If the camera does not pick it up, open that phone's Wi-Fi settings and tap the QR scanner icon next to Add network. An iPhone can scan the code with its Camera app too.

On Samsung phones. Go to Settings, Connections, Wi-Fi, tap the gear next to the connected network, and tap QR code at the bottom of the screen. The other phone scans it the same way.

Other ways to hand it over. The Share screen also has a Nearby or Quick Share button that sends the network directly to a nearby Android phone with no scanning. For a laptop or anything else that cannot scan, read the password text under the QR code and type it in.
