How to Turn Off Autoplay on YouTube
Stop YouTube from starting the next video when one ends by switching off the Autoplay toggle on the website, in the phone app, and on a TV.
Autoplay queues the next suggested video and starts it as soon as the current one finishes. The switch lives in the player itself, and turning it off on one device does not carry over to the others.
Find the toggle on the website
Play any video. Look at the control bar along the bottom of the player. The Autoplay switch sits to the right of the play and volume controls, next to the gear icon. Hover over it and the tooltip reads Autoplay is on.
Switch it off
Click the Autoplay switch. It slides to the left and shows a pause symbol, and the tooltip changes to Autoplay is off. When the video ends, the player stops on the end screen instead of counting down to the next video.
Turn it off in the phone app
Play a video and tap it to show the controls. The Autoplay switch is at the top of the video, near the Cast icon. Tap it so it shows a pause symbol. The app remembers the setting for future videos on that phone.
Check the Autoplay settings screen
In the app, tap your profile picture, then Settings, then Autoplay. Turn off Autoplay next video if it is still on. A separate setting, Settings, General, Playback in feeds, controls the silent previews that play as you scroll the Home feed; set it to Off if those bother you too.
Turn it off on a TV
Open the YouTube app on the TV. Go to Settings, then Autoplay, and switch it off. On some TV apps the toggle is also shown at the top of the video screen.
It is per device. Autoplay is stored separately for each browser, phone, and TV, so switching it off on your laptop leaves it on in the phone app.
Playlists still advance. Turning off Autoplay stops suggested videos only. A playlist keeps playing through its videos in order.
