How to Turn Off Autoplay on Spotify

When a playlist or album finishes, Spotify keeps going with similar songs it picks itself. That is Autoplay, and it is a single switch in the app settings that you turn off on each device.

Open Settings

In the Spotify app, tap your profile picture at the top left, then Settings and privacy. On some versions the gear icon is at the top right of the Home tab instead.

Go to Playback

Scroll down and tap Playback. This section holds crossfade, gapless playback, and the autoplay switch.

Turn off the Autoplay toggle

Find Autoplay similar content when your music ends and switch it off. Older versions label it just Autoplay. Playback now stops when the last track in your queue ends instead of continuing into recommended songs.

Check the queue if music still continues

Tap the queue icon at the bottom right of the Now Playing screen. If songs you did not add are listed there, something other than Autoplay put them in. A radio station, a Daily Mix, or Smart Shuffle all add tracks before the queue ends, so Autoplay is not what you need to change.

Test it

Play the last song of a short playlist and let it finish. If the player stops, the setting took. If it carries on, repeat the steps above on the device that is actually playing; when you control a speaker or TV from your phone, the setting on that device can matter too.

Smart Shuffle is separate. Smart Shuffle mixes recommended tracks into a playlist while it plays, not after it ends. Tap the shuffle button until it shows plain shuffle or no shuffle to turn that off. The Autoplay switch does not affect it.

On desktop. Click your profile picture, Settings, scroll to Playback, and turn off Autoplay similar content when your music ends. The setting is per device, so set it on each phone and computer you use.
