How to Print Labels from a Google Sheet Without Word

You have names and addresses in a Google Sheet and need them on a sheet of labels, but Google Sheets and Google Docs have no mail merge or label feature built in. The layout has to come from somewhere else. Three routes work without Word: the label maker's free web tool, a Docs add-on, or a hand-built table for a handful of labels.

Prepare the sheet

Use one row per label and one column per line: name, street, city, state, ZIP. Keep a header row, since every tool uses it to name the fields. Delete blank rows and stray notes below the data, or they become labels too. Download a copy with File, Download, Comma Separated Values (.csv) if the tool asks for a file.

Use Avery Design & Print Online

Go to avery.com and open Design & Print Online, which is free with an account. Enter the template number, choose a blank or plain design, and open Import Data. Upload the CSV or connect Google Drive and pick the sheet directly. Map each column to a line of the label, check the preview for every page, then choose Print and download the PDF.

Or merge with a Docs add-on

Open a blank Google Doc and go to Extensions, Add-ons, Get add-ons. Install a label add-on such as Avery Label Merge or Labelmaker; both have free tiers with limits. Run it from the Extensions menu, select the spreadsheet, choose the template number, place the merge fields in the layout, and create the labels. The result is a Doc laid out to the label sheet, printed from Docs like any other document.

Or type a table by hand

For a few labels, insert a table in a Doc with the same grid as the label sheet, three columns by ten rows for a standard 30-per-sheet layout. Open Format, Table, Table properties and set column widths and row heights to the measurements on the box, then match the page margins under File, Page setup. Type or paste each address into its cell.

In the print dialog, set the scale to 100% or Actual size, never Fit to page, and turn off any option that adds margins. Print the first page on plain paper, hold it against a label sheet up to the light, and check that every address sits inside its label before loading the real sheets.

If leading zeros are missing from ZIP codes. Select the ZIP column in the sheet and set Format, Number, Plain text before typing or pasting, so 02134 stays 02134. The template number every tool asks for is printed on the label box, such as 5160.
