How to Update Zoom
Check which version of Zoom you have, install the latest release from the app or zoom.us, and update the mobile app so meetings do not refuse entry.
Zoom releases updates every few weeks, and hosts on newer versions can require them. The steps below update the desktop app and the mobile app, and show how to check which version you have.
Open the update check
Open the Zoom desktop app and sign in. Click your profile picture in the top right corner of the window, then click Check for Updates. On a Mac the same option is also under the zoom.us menu in the menu bar.
Install the update
If a newer version exists, a window lists what changed. Click Update (or Install). Zoom downloads the update, closes, and reopens on the new version; the whole process takes under a minute on a normal connection. If the window says you are up to date, nothing else is needed.
Download manually if the check fails
If Check for Updates is missing, grayed out, or shows an error, get the installer from the website. Go to zoom.us/download in a browser and click Download under Zoom Workplace. Run the installer; it replaces the existing app and keeps your sign-in and settings. This route also works when the app is so old that it can no longer update itself.
Update the phone app
On iPhone or iPad, open the App Store, tap your profile icon, scroll to Zoom Workplace, and tap Update. On Android, open Google Play, tap your profile icon, then Manage apps & device, and update Zoom from the list. Turning on automatic app updates on the phone avoids doing this by hand.
Confirm the version
Click your profile picture, then Help, then About Zoom (Mac: zoom.us menu, About Zoom). The version number looks like 6.x.x. On a phone, tap More, then About. Compare it with the current release listed at zoom.us/download.
If a meeting refuses to let you in. Zoom enforces a minimum version. An app more than a few releases behind shows a message that it must be updated before joining, and some organizations require the latest release. Updating before a meeting, rather than at the join screen, avoids being late while the installer runs.
Automatic updates. In the desktop app, open Settings (gear icon), General, and check the option to keep Zoom up to date automatically. Choose Slow for fewer, more tested updates or Fast for the newest features. Zoom also prompts at launch when an update is waiting.
