Photos received in WhatsApp live inside the app on the phone. The quickest route to a computer is WhatsApp itself on the computer, with folder copying and chat export for bulk moves.
Link WhatsApp on the computer
Install WhatsApp for Windows or Mac, or open web.whatsapp.com in a browser. On the phone, open WhatsApp, go to Settings (iPhone) or the three-dot menu (Android), tap Linked devices, Link a device, and scan the QR code on the computer screen.
Download photos from a chat
Open the chat on the computer, click a photo to open it, and click the download icon. To grab many at once, click the contact or group name at the top, then Media, links and docs. Select several photos and use the download button to save them together to your Downloads folder.
Copy the WhatsApp Images folder from an Android phone
Connect the phone by USB, choose File transfer on the phone's USB notification, and open it in File Explorer or Android File Transfer. Go to Internal storage, Android, media, com.whatsapp, WhatsApp, Media, WhatsApp Images and copy the folder. This gives every received photo in one move, with a Sent subfolder for the ones you sent.
Save photos to the Camera Roll on an iPhone
On iPhone there is no accessible folder. Open WhatsApp, Settings, Chats and turn on Save to Camera Roll so incoming photos land in the Photos app. For photos already received, open the photo in the chat, tap the share button, and tap Save. Then move them to the computer like any other iPhone photo, by cable, iCloud, or AirDrop.
Export a whole chat with its media
On Android, open the chat, tap the three-dot menu, More, Export chat, choose Include media, and send the file to your email or Google Drive. On iPhone, tap the contact or group name, scroll down, tap Export Chat, choose Attach Media, and pick Mail, Files, or another destination. The export contains a text file of the chat plus the photos.
If the export is missing photos. WhatsApp caps an export with media at the most recent 10,000 messages (40,000 without media), so very long chats lose the oldest files. Use the folder copy or the Media screen for those.
If the photos look low quality. WhatsApp compresses photos on send unless the sender picks HD quality or sends them as a document. Ask for the originals as documents when resolution matters.
