How to Add a Website to Bing Webmaster Tools

Add your site to Bing Webmaster Tools by importing it from Google Search Console or verifying with a DNS record, meta tag or XML file, then submit a sitemap.

Bing Webmaster Tools shows how Bing crawls and ranks your site, and it is the way to get pages indexed there faster. Adding a site takes a few minutes, and the import route needs no DNS changes at all.

Sign in at bing.com/webmasters

Open bing.com/webmasters and sign in with a Microsoft, Google or Facebook account. On first sign-in you land on a screen with two options: import from Google Search Console, or add a site manually.

Import from Google Search Console

If the site is already verified in Google Search Console, click Import. Sign in with the Google account that owns the property, tick the sites to bring over, and click Import. Verification carries across, so the site is live in Bing immediately. This is the fastest route and the one to use when it is available.

Or add the site manually and verify it

Enter the full URL, including https://, under the manual option and click Add. Then choose one verification method:

  • XML file: download BingSiteAuth.xml and upload it to the site's root so it is reachable at https://yourdomain.com/BingSiteAuth.xml.
  • HTML meta tag: paste the provided tag into the <head> of the home page.
<meta name="msvalidate.01" content="YOUR-CODE-HERE" />
  • CNAME record: at the DNS provider, add a CNAME with the host name Bing shows, pointing to verify.bing.com.

Click Verify. A DNS record can take a few minutes to become visible; the file and meta tag methods work as soon as the page is deployed.

Submit the sitemap

In the left menu, open Sitemaps, click Submit sitemap, enter the sitemap URL and click Submit:

https://yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml

Bing fetches it within a few hours and shows the number of URLs discovered next to it.

Bing feeds other engines. DuckDuckGo and Yahoo draw their web results from Bing's index, so a site verified here shows up in those too. Bing Webmaster Tools is the only place to submit for all three.

For new pages. The URL Submission tool in the left menu accepts individual URLs and gets them crawled within minutes rather than waiting for the next sitemap fetch. There is a daily quota per site, shown on the same page.
