How to Play Spotify on Your TV

Send Spotify from your phone to a smart TV, streaming stick, or game console with Spotify Connect, Chromecast, or AirPlay, or log in to the TV's own app.

Applies to: current Spotify app; account settings on spotify.com noted. Checked September 2026.

There are two ways to get Spotify on a TV: control it from your phone with Spotify Connect, or open the Spotify app installed on the TV itself. For the phone to see the TV, both need to be on the same Wi-Fi network.

Put the phone and TV on the same Wi-Fi

Check the network name in the phone's Wi-Fi settings and in the TV's network settings. Guest networks and mobile hotspots usually block Connect from finding the TV.

Start a song and tap the device icon

Play anything on your phone, open the Now Playing screen, and tap the device icon at the bottom (a speaker with a small screen). The screen that opens is labeled Connect to a device and lists every TV, speaker, and computer Spotify can reach.

Pick the TV from the list

Tap the TV. Playback moves to the TV and the phone becomes a remote: queue songs, change the volume, and skip from the phone or from the TV remote. If the TV is not listed, install the Spotify app on it from the TV's app store and open it once so it registers.

Or open the Spotify app on the TV

Spotify is available on Samsung, LG, Android TV and Google TV, Apple TV, Roku, Fire TV, PlayStation, and Xbox. Open it and log in with your Spotify email and password, or choose Log in with PIN and enter the code shown on the TV at spotify.com/pair on your phone. Once logged in, the TV app plays on its own and also appears in the phone's device picker.

Use Chromecast or AirPlay instead

In the same Connect to a device list, Chromecast TVs and AirPlay TVs such as Apple TV appear under their own headings. Tap one to send playback there. This works even on TVs that have no Spotify app of their own.

Bringing playback back. Tap the device icon again and choose your phone. The TV stops and the song continues on the phone from the same spot.

Free accounts. Spotify Connect works on Free, but the TV plays in shuffle with ads, and some TV apps and consoles ask for Premium before they will play at all. Premium removes those limits and lets you pick any track.
