How to Mute Someone on Instagram
Mute an Instagram account's posts or Stories from their profile or a story bubble so they stop appearing in your feed, without unfollowing or blocking them.

Muting keeps you following someone while hiding their posts, Stories, or both from your feed. They cannot tell, and you can unmute at any time. Use it for accounts you do not want to unfollow but do not want to see every day.
Open their profile
Open the Instagram app and go to the profile of the account you want to mute. Tap their username from a post, a comment, or a search.
Tap Following
Tap the Following button under their profile picture. A menu slides up.
Tap Mute and choose what to hide
Tap Mute. Turn on the Posts toggle to hide their feed posts and Reels, the Stories toggle to hide their Stories, or both. The change applies right away. Some accounts also show a Notes toggle for the short notes that appear above your inbox.
Mute from a story bubble instead
At the top of your feed, press and hold the person's story bubble. Tap Mute, then choose Mute story or Mute story and posts. This is the fastest way to deal with someone whose Stories keep appearing at the front of the row.
Unmute the same way
To undo it, go back to their profile, tap Following, tap Mute, and turn the toggles off. Or press and hold their story bubble, which now sits at the end of the row, and tap Unmute.
Check your muted list
Go to your profile, tap the three horizontal lines, tap Settings and activity, then tap Muted accounts under What you see. Every account you have muted is listed there with what is muted for each one, and you can unmute from that screen.
What they see. Nothing. Muted accounts are not notified, they still see you in their followers list, and they can still see your posts and message you. You can still visit their profile and see everything they post. Muting only affects what shows up in your own feed and story row.
On the website. On instagram.com, open the person's profile, click Following, click Mute, and choose Posts or Stories. The muted list is under More, Settings, Muted accounts.
