How to Delete a Blank Page in Google Docs

A blank page in Google Docs is almost always caused by something invisible: extra empty paragraphs, a page break, a section break, or spacing that pushes a single line onto a new page. Remove that, and the page goes with it.

Delete the empty paragraphs

Click at the very start of the blank page and press Backspace until the page disappears. If the cursor will not land there, click at the end of the last line on the previous page and press Delete (Fn + Delete on a Mac) to pull the empty lines back up. To see where the empty paragraphs are, click View, Show non-printing characters; each one shows as a pilcrow (¶).

Remove a page break

If the blank page starts right after a page break, click at the end of the text before the break and press Delete, or click at the start of the blank page and press Backspace. With non-printing characters showing, the break appears as a dotted line labeled Page break.

Remove a section break

Section breaks do not show at all by default. Click View, Show section breaks to reveal them as blue dotted lines. Click just after the break and press Backspace to remove it. Check headers and page numbering afterward, since each section can carry its own settings.

Fix a blank last page after a table

Google Docs always places a paragraph after a table, and if the table ends near the bottom of the page that paragraph lands alone on a new one. Click into that trailing paragraph, then click Format, Line & paragraph spacing, Custom spacing and set After to 0. If it still spills over, select the empty paragraph and shrink its font size to 1 by typing the number into the font size box and pressing Enter.

Reduce the bottom margin

When the last line of the document only just overflows, click File, Page setup and lower the Bottom margin by about a quarter inch. Click OK. The line pulls back onto the previous page and the blank page disappears.

If you are not sure the page is real. The editor view is a preview; what matters is File, Print. Check the page count in the print dialog before spending time on a page that may not print at all.

If you never print. Click File, Page setup, Pageless, then OK. Pageless mode removes page boundaries and page breaks entirely, so a blank page cannot exist.
