How to Add a Google Meet Link to a Calendar Event

The invitation went out and the first reply asks where the call is happening. A calendar event does not carry a video link on its own; the link is created by a button in the event editor and only exists once that event is saved. Adding it writes the joining details into the event and into every guest's copy of the invitation.

Click Create, Event, then More options for the full editor, or use the quick editor. Click Add Google Meet video conferencing. The button turns into a Meet link with a code under it. Add the guests, then click Save.

Open the event, click the pencil icon to edit it, then click Add Google Meet video conferencing and click Save. Google Calendar offers to send an update to the guests, which is worth sending, since the link is what they need.

Check what the guests receive

Open the saved event. The Join with Google Meet button appears on the event itself, in the email invitation, and in any reminder. Use Join with Google Meet, then the copy icon beside it, to share the same link outside the invitation.

Edit the event, click the X next to the Meet details, then Save and send the update. The link stops working for that event, so remove it only when the meeting has genuinely moved somewhere else.

Call length depends on the account. A personal Gmail account creates a working link, but group calls on it end at a time limit, while one to one calls run longer. A work or school account follows whatever the organization's Google Workspace plan allows, which is usually far longer along with recording and other extras.

Guests and the phone app. A guest does not need a Google account to join a Meet link, though anyone signed out, or outside the organization, may sit in a waiting room until someone in the meeting admits them. The Google Calendar app for Android and iPhone has the same Add Google Meet video conferencing button inside the event editor.
