How to Set Your Homepage in Chrome

Chrome keeps two separate settings that people call the homepage: the page the home button opens, and the pages that open when Chrome starts. Set one or both.

Turn on the home button

Click the three-dot menu at the top right, then choose Settings, Appearance. Turn on Show home button. A house icon appears to the left of the address bar.

Under Show home button, two options appear. Select New Tab page to open Chrome's default new tab, or select Enter custom web address and type the full address, such as https://www.wikipedia.org. Chrome saves it as you type.

Test it with the button or the shortcut

Click the house icon, or press Alt + Home (Mac: Cmd + Shift + H). The page opens in the current tab.

Set the pages that open at startup

Go to Settings, On startup. Choose Open a specific page or set of pages, then click Add a new page, type the address, and click Add. Repeat for every page you want in its own tab. Use current pages adds every tab you have open right now instead. Choose Continue where you left off to reopen whatever was open last time, or Open the New Tab page to start clean.

Edit or remove a startup page

Next to any address in the startup list, click the three-dot icon and choose Edit or Remove. Changes take effect the next time Chrome starts.

On a phone. Chrome for Android has its own Homepage setting under Settings, where you can turn it on and enter an address. Startup pages do not exist in the app. Chrome for iPhone has no homepage setting.

If the homepage keeps changing. Chrome never changes these settings by itself. If a search page or unfamiliar site keeps coming back, an extension or a browser hijacker is resetting it. Open the three-dot menu, Extensions, Manage Extensions, and remove anything you do not recognize. Then check Settings, Search engine, since hijackers change the default search engine at the same time. As a last resort, use Settings, Reset settings, Restore settings to their original defaults.
