How to Change Where Chrome Saves Downloads

Chrome drops every download into your Downloads folder. To send them somewhere else, such as a project folder or a second drive, change the location once in settings, or tell Chrome to ask every time.
Open the Downloads settings
Click the three-dot menu in the top right, choose Settings, then Downloads in the left column. Or paste this in the address bar and press Enter:

Change the location
Next to Location, click Change. Pick the folder you want and click Select Folder (Mac: Open). Every download from now on lands there. The path shown next to Location updates right away.
Make Chrome ask each time
On the same page, turn on Ask where to save each file before downloading. Chrome opens a save dialog for every download, where you can pick a folder and rename the file before it saves. Turn it off again if it gets in the way.
Choose whether to show finished downloads
Turn Show downloads when they're done off if you do not want the downloads bubble opening after each file. Downloads are always in the list under the download icon at the top right, or press Ctrl + J (Mac: Cmd + Shift + J).
If you are on a phone. On Android, Chrome always saves to the Downloads folder, or to an SD card if you pick that under Chrome Settings, Downloads. On iPhone and iPad, Chrome and Safari save to the Downloads folder inside the Files app, and neither lets you pick a different default.
If a download went to the wrong place. Press Ctrl + J (Mac: Cmd + Shift + J), find the file, and click Show in folder. Chrome opens the folder it landed in so you can move the file.
