How to Block Notifications from a Website in Chrome

Stop a site from sending Chrome notifications, either from the site info popup or from the Notifications page in Chrome's site settings.

A site you visited once is now pushing alerts to your desktop through Chrome. You can block that one site in a few clicks, or turn off notification prompts for every site.

Click the icon left of the address bar

Go to the site that is sending notifications. Click the icon at the left end of the address bar (a sliders icon on most sites, a lock in older versions of Chrome). A popup shows the permissions that site has been granted.

Set Notifications to Block

If Notifications is listed in the popup, open its dropdown and choose Block. If it is not listed, click Site settings at the bottom of the popup, find Notifications in the permissions list, and set it to Block. Reload the page for the change to take effect.

Review every site from Chrome settings

To handle several sites at once, open the three-dot menu, Settings, Privacy and security, Site settings, Notifications. Or paste:

chrome://settings/content/notifications

The page lists sites under Allowed to send notifications and Not allowed to send notifications. Click the three-dot button next to any allowed site and choose Block. Choosing Remove instead clears the decision, so the site can ask again next time.

Stop new sites from asking

On the same page, select Don't allow sites to send notifications instead of Sites can ask to send notifications. Sites already on the allowed list keep working, but no new site can prompt you. If you want to keep prompts but make them less intrusive, leave asking on and tick Use quieter messaging, which turns the popup into a small bell icon in the address bar.

System-level toggle. Windows and macOS each have their own notification switch for Chrome. On Windows, open Settings, System, Notifications and find Google Chrome in the app list. On macOS, open System Settings, Notifications and find Google Chrome. Turning Chrome off there silences every site at once without changing anything inside the browser.

On a phone. Chrome for Android has the same per-site list under its Settings, Notifications. Chrome for iPhone does not support website notifications at all.
