How to Enable Developer Options on Android

Developer options is a hidden Settings menu that holds USB debugging, animation speed controls, and other tools. You will unlock it by tapping the build number, then find it under System.

Open About phone

Open Settings and tap About phone. Scroll to the bottom of the screen.

Tap Build number seven times

Tap Build number repeatedly. After a few taps a message counts down how many steps away you are from being a developer. Keep tapping until it reaches zero.

Enter your PIN

When asked, enter your PIN, pattern, or password. A short message confirms that you are now a developer.

Open Developer options

Go back to Settings, tap System, then tap Developer options. It now appears near the bottom of the System screen. The toggle at the top of the page controls whether the menu is active.

Change a setting

Two common uses. Under the Debugging section, turn on USB debugging so a computer can send ADB commands to the phone; accept the fingerprint prompt on the phone the first time you connect. Under the Drawing section, set Window animation scale, Transition animation scale, and Animator duration scale to Animation scale .5x or Animation off to make the interface respond faster.

On Samsung phones. Go to Settings, About phone, Software information, and tap Build number seven times. Developer options then appears at the bottom of the main Settings list rather than under System.

Turning it off. Open Developer options and switch off the toggle at the top; the menu disappears from Settings until you unlock it again. Leave USB debugging off unless you are using it, since it lets any computer the phone has trusted run commands over USB.
